Family is the nucleus of civilization and the basic unit of society. Aristotle stated that the family is nature’s established association for the supply of mankind’s everyday wants.
The UN General Assembly’s first formal recognition of the family unit’s special status as the basic building block of civilized society came in 1989;
NITCAA TVM family is a true subset of the universal family and every family is responsible to sustainable consumption. The 1994 Oslo Symposium defines Sustainable Consumption as “the goods and services for our basic needs and better quality of life shall minimize the use of natural resources, adverse environmental impact and toxic materials as well as emissions of waste and pollutants over the life cycle of the goods and services, so as not to jeopardize the needs of future generations.”
17 nos of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were adopted by United Nations Member States in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030. Goal 12 of SDG deals with Responsible consumption and production
To us, in our family it is all about what we buy, how we use and our life style! From vegetables to cosmetics, vehicles to water, FMCG goods to provisions, electricity, LPG, water, waste generation and management, it goes, all encompassing.
We often fail to review or feel incapable to check and verify the authenticity of fuel and electricity bills – to ensure the energy or water is used efficiently? Weather the appliances are operated efficiency? While we purchase, if efficiency and safety and user friendliness are considered?
We face: Relentless trend cycle of fast fashion, brands and advertisement confusing and creating desire and influence of consumerism If we conduct an audit of gadgets, materials, energy use, waste generation, water use etc. in our homes, potential for savings up to 50% may be revealed!!
